Official™ Main Page Discussion
What sort of content are planning on having splash in people's faces here on the Main Page?
Personally (RooK), I'd hope to see:
- A version of the classic AIF Manual main contents links (in some form or other).
- A snippet of the latest Technobabble - or a link at least.
- Recent update stuff, perhaps. If we do anything interesting we'd like to point out.
- News of our latest game(s).
- Links to T-shirts and other AIF-merch, obviously.
Dave, seriously dude: you totally zarking rock. RooK 18:18, 27 June 2008 (MDT)
On MediaWiki (and a couple of others) they use these "page templates" to format content. Specifically it's a nice way to incorprate different streams of content on the main page such as news/recent changes/main topics.
I'm just wondering if that is possible.--Lou 13:27, 11 July 2008 (MDT)
I think this is possible. Dave, would you mind taking this this on as our site technical lead? RooK 01:11, 12 July 2008 (MDT)
Yeah, I've tried creating a template for the occupations (template:occupation-table) that I was hoping to include in a pretty little box on the right-hand side of the occupations. Sadly, I haven't found the formatting required to make the template appear as an inserted box instead of just a lump of distracting content at the beginning. -shrug-

It sounds like there's a "class type" for formatting called "infobox". Is that perhaps something we can import or activate for our install of MediaWiki?

Would you guys mind if start linking each species to a category called "species". It's a good way to navigate back... I think. --Lou 16:53, 11 July 2008 (MDT)
I gave this a try on the Human page. It's a fairly friendly way to navigate. So everything that belongs to a particular category would all be available there. So when I make a character and am walking through the site I go to the species topic page (here's where a summary would be great), click on a species that I like the sound of, go to their page and check it out. If I don't like it I navigate back to the species category which has everything listed related to the topic of species and I either pick out a different species, return to the species topic to look over the summary or maybe look up a related topic to clarify something related to the selection of species. It definitely makes sense to me.--Lou 00:33, 12 July 2008 (MDT)
I like the category at the bottom, but I don't like the link at the top. Other categories would be obviously:
--RooK 01:11, 12 July 2008 (MDT)
Ooo, I missed the link thingy on the bottom. That's easy. All it takes is this text at the bottom of each article
[[Category:Species]] --Lou 09:28, 12 July 2008 (MDT)
Ah, that's better. I was wondering how to get that working.
Apparently, the word "history" is a key word for "page history" in wikimedia. So I've substituted "continuum", and made a bounce page to the current History page. If we can't find a way to make "History" work in the sidebar, maybe we should just transfer it all to "Continuum" - or something similar.
