As about to be newly created beings you are informed that you are to be created as your planet’s champions in an upcoming Hangry Games. For the next ten years, you will grow up on the planet you’re fighting for and be trained in the skill required for the game. Victory will bring glory for your society, as well as much needed resources.

You all have thirty two points from the custom being generator. During the next decade you will be trained to third stage and have maximum bonuses and stamina from those stages. However, there’s a small catch. Each Hangry Games requires something different from its players to keep the audience entertained. For this one it was decided that all occupations must be the same<sup>1</sup>. It will be a spectacle of lopsidedness. The teams you are competing against will be under similar restrictions. Stages earned once the games begin are not restricted.

To allow for individuality, you can also cultivate a unique skill, though it will not count towards stages or any bonuses.

As you grow up, you learn that your planet is called Serf3, and is under control of a planet called Gigas. You will be competing against four other teams from other subjugated planets. You don’t learn anything specific about past Hangry games, but the general feeling you get is that they’re extremely unfair.

		+	As the team walked away, a timer appeared in all their individual comms - 8.4 kiloseconds. Nominally the countdown until the planned return of Gripper Of Things.

		+	Instead of a detailed discussion of what all this might mean with Sam the mentalist Hessler, the Owsla Irregulars instead grabbed ZAZLEBRAD the terrified Reptiloid professional technician and decided to break into the section of the Singularity Cruise housing the singularity.

		+	With the entire bar section watching in silent horror - and from as far away as possible - they coaxed Zazlebrad into using some forbidden tool to tamper open the ancient base-scale door. Inside was quite a sight.
		+
		+	Dominating the massive interior volume - which consisted of paired conical sections vaulting to heights nobody had seen in their entire lives - was the eye-watering light-bending singularity-like entity that was the heart of RIHLAT ALTAFARUD. Strewn about the corners of this space was an H.R. Geiger-like accretion of alien organic technology, but as if you had walked into your nerdy single friend's room full of projects unannounced and nothing had even the slightest pretence of being of being straightened up. One far corner contained an especially large array of mess, -er projects. Populating this space were scores of biological robots - including the various kinds of harvesters previously seen occasionally in other section. But mostly dominated by 11 intermediate-scale "monsters".

		+	They appeared to be "reactive".

		+	==2026-08-21 - Big Fight==

		+	The monsters all (but one large exception in the messiest area) focused on the team having opened the door. Negotiations were attempted after one monster demanded - in a halting manner - for the "illicit technology" to be turned over. It quickly became apparent that the monsters were only of animal intelligence and could only offer pre-programmed communication. And, more to the point, were clearly going to kill everybody at the door.

		+	BUT! Despite being massively outnumbered and technically out-gunned, the team managed to keep the engagement near the doorway, and forced the monsters through that choke point. Plus, with their augmented weapons the team had a clear skill advantage. And with Oliver's strength boosted up from "4" to "6" by Pramorg's new mentalist ability, he was literally able to punch above their weight class. Heltu's upgraded mortal wound capability turned the monsters they hit into anime gore fountains. Grenades were also useful.

		+	The Owsla Irregulars decide to attack the Underboss Palace. As they approach, intermediate scale blast doors and shields slam down. Oliver saunters up, planning to bludgeon the palace into submission, but as they get closer they get broadband hailed. "If you come any closer, I'm going to blow shit up!" Simultaneously, social media starts flagging Pramorg, Heltu, and Oliver for bounties.

		+	Everyone racked their brains, trying to think of any hidden explosives around they might have missed, but nothing came to mind. But as Oliver got closer, the shield segment nearest started overloading. It then exploded radially in a 10m zone, and gave Oliver a bruising. Then the shield popped back up and started recharging.

		+	Undaunted, Heltu just blasted away the shield from outside the blast range with Groucho and Harpo until it was flickering, then she kept it down while Oliver carved the door open with Benji.

		+	Inside the palace, it was clean and opulent in a way none of the party had seen in their entire lives. More importantly, their NastiDyne™ Emergency Integration Protocol quasi-memories suggested that it was definitely on the nicer side. The central space of the palace was the full height of the building, while the surrounding space appeared to have a separate second floor.

		+	No exploration was possible, however, as a large battle suit dropped into the central space and a sentient assault weapon jumped out to equip the Underboss. It was an intense fight, but the extra-large battle suit and the never-miss assault weapon were not able to withstand the simultaneous attentions of Heltu, Oliver, and Pramorg. However, the Underboss was unwilling to die an honourable death, and instead surrendered.

		+	When the sentient weapon stowed and the battle suit cracked open, there in the core was grizzled Jack.

		+	<big>CLIFFHANGER!</big>

		+	==2026-08-07 - He Who Should Be Obeyed==

		+	The interrogation of the Underboss had an undercurrent of urgency. "You assholes, we're all going to die when The Gripper Of Things gets back!"
		+
		+	A salty and distorted history of The Singularity Cruise [RIHLAT ALTAFARUD] was leveraged out of the ex-Underboss. After discovery by non-leporine species in the Second Galaxy - mostly Confederation aligned - the generation ship was quietly turned into a secret foldspace factory, with a cover story of being an exotic resort of sorts. When a wave of Xoids found the ship the Nastidyne security forces tried to ensure that word did not get out. Something dramatic happened - the Underboss, BENSON of destroyed Clan Vorbex - wasn't really sure and never asked. But somehow the lead Xoid biotech was corrupted and severed from his swarm, and realized that the only path to survival was to pivot and work for Nastidyne. Which is the basic and unstable foundation of the current decaying state of things.

		+	"Cool." thought the whole team, "Let's charge into that last section and see the foldspace factory!"

		+	And so they did. Guarding the entrance was one of the now-familiar Monster constructs, and the team spread out and started engaging it. And they would have won too! Except Pramorg, that sneaky little fellow, used his newly enhanced flying ability [move pack] zoomed in to get a better look of the whole section. And it was a level of cleanliness, order, and sterility that was low-key unsettling. Dominating the center of the volume is what looked like an overly-elaborate fold space portal with huge power conduits running to it from the singularity section. Teams of technicians were scattered about, working hard and only partially paying attention to the fight by the entrance. More importantly, several other monster-class constructs were scattered about the space. But even more daunting than any of that was that Pramorg had a "bad feeling", and it was approaching.

		+	Pramorg warned the others, and they all disengaged. But when they tried to leave, they were hailed. "Do not leave; come discuss." The bleeding monster departed the fight, and a timer popped up in everyone's comms.

		+	They kept leaving, but were subsequently prompted with, "Do not make me send someone to fetch you." From a location a lot closer, that Pramorg could still not conclusively determine the exact origin of.
		+
		+	So they followed the vectors insisted by the sourceless comms, and found a holographic meeting room jump into existence around them. And then the robotic mantis turned off its personal cloaking device. It further clarified a few things:
		+	* It must keep this facility secret, and has the means to destroy it if necessary.
		+	* It needs a 5<sup>th</sup>-stage technician (or functional equivalent) to run the final assembly of the foldspace generators.
		+	* It needs a security team to protect the foldspace assembly operations.
		+
		+	Additionally, it alluded that the team's arrival was expected - but late. And it did not explain why it could not just get the required personnel from Nastidyne.

		+	Then the team were suggested to go talk to Sam, and figure out what they wanted to do.
