This is another setting using the C.O.G. system.

It's a future where life on earth had spread throughout the solar system, and then descended into pervasive conflicts that rendered biological life endangered. Machine life left over from the arrayed conflagrations is flourishing.

Species

Most entities are simply machines, but many are post-humans - humans whose brains were uploaded and translated into machine form.

Pure machines range from plant-like to highly intelligent, but most are psychopaths. Pure machines account for 90% of entities in the solar system.

Post-humans come in 3 general types.

  1. First Wave - people who arranged to upload themselves early on. These are several centuries old now, and almost all pretty eccentric (and probably were before upload too). They account for about 0.01% of the population.
  2. Drones - people who were deemed useful or necessary during the exponential escalation of conflicts a century earlier. They're 0.1% of the population.
  3. Cattle - people hastily uploaded to "save" them when it became obvious that they were going to die. They're 9.99%, and they're almost all pretty messed up about it.

Biological humans are rumoured to still exist. And so are biological dragons, with about equal seriousness.

Gear

Equipment

Microscopic robots aid in rapid construction and repair.

Tool kits are specialized for specific functions:

  • combat repairs
  • structural modification
  • weapon / power system modification
  • cognitive / communication / sensory modification

Superconducting solar arrays achieve about 500 W/m².
More pedestrian solar arrays achieve about 200 W/m².

Weapons

Weapons come in four primary types:

  • projectile
    • generally rail guns - 1 MJ per D damage
    • slugs deliver simple kinetic energy damage
    • explosive rounds allow higher damage potential for a given size gun
    • flechette or shot rounds allow for widestroke bonus to hit
  • beam
    • generally IR lasers - 2 MJ per D damage
    • best range / accuracy
  • static pulse
    • highly-charged superconducting pellets - 1 MJ per D damage
    • damage is only to processors / electronics - structure and power systems largely unaffected
  • self-propelled missile
    • similar to AIF, except use chemical propellant

Money System

Joules.

Relevant in a creepy way is the following:

  • thinking machines of any significant sentience are ~100 W - 360 kJ every hour just to think
  • movement is 1kW per 100 kilograms per point of speed - so a 50 kg being travelling at average (3) speed spends 5.4 MJ every hour

Healing

There is no healing, only fixing. At least there aren't mortal wounds either.

Magic

Theoretically possible, assuming you could find a biological human. Which you can't.
